The work is not done once your new hire starts.

Onboarding is an exceedingly important process, and to make sure your new team member feels welcome, here are some tips:

🧡 Have meetings scheduled (but staggered) throughout the week to introduce key team members and stakeholders, and attend those meetings yourself as a fellow team member or manager to make the introductions

🧡 Greet your new starter (IN PERSON if you can) for more than just 10 minutes before walking away; set aside a solid hour or so to show them around, have them get settled and make sure you cover any questions they may have

🧡 Check in – regularly. I don’t mean at the end of the week to see how they’ve gone. Check in every day or so to see how they are getting on, whether they have met the right relevant people and whether you can do anything to help

🧡 Talk about things other than work! The first week and month of a new role is exhausting, made all the more so when all you have is new work info streaming into your brain. Make an effort to connect with someone on a human level and a person, it will do wonders to break up the information overload but also make them feel welcome
