FFFY as a # workingmum

Last week, I celebrated my FFFY as a # workingmum! What does FFFY mean I hear you ask?? First Full Financial Year…. And you know what, it was awesome.

Being a working mum for a full financial year has had its ups and downs. Let’s give you a little summary…

  • I hit 140% of my target- meaning that I get to go on the 110% club trip to Thailand
  • I mastered a new market – SAP
  • I mastered being a ‘modern recruiter’
  • I organised an event called Women in SAP – sadly it was postponed, more about this later
  • I lost 15 kilos of baby weight
  • Had to have emergency surgery
  • I mastered the art of hiding scrambled egg and broccoli in porridge

Oh, I also mastered keeping on top of housework when living with 2 boys!

before and after

Now anyone who knows me will understand that giving myself the thumbs up for the above points is not something that comes naturally to me. I tend to always look at what I could do to improve rather than what I have done well but you know what, this time, I am owning it – I have done well!

I have been surprised by this year and how much I have enjoyed it. Don’t tell anyone but by the time Tuesday evening rolls around (my ‘Sunday’ evening) I am excited to get to work the next day and I am sure that my son is excited to go and see his pals at day care so I genuinely think that the time apart does my family a world of good!

In fact, next week I am flying solo to England with Fraser and spending 3 full weeks with him. I’m a bit nervous, how am I am going to keep him entertained 24/7? In the words of his day care teacher ‘Oh gosh, he is very active!” GULP. Can anyone offer any tips??

So, my very long-winded point is that sometimes, us #workingmums need to give ourselves a pat on the back and stop and smell the roses! In fact, this is not just limited to #workingmums, everyone should!

Snaps to you…

***Now let’s tackle the Women in SAP event that was postponed.

When things don’t go to plan…

At the end of May, my appendix decided that it didn’t want to be part of my body anymore and I had to have emergency surgery to have it removed. Annoyingly, it was right when I was meant to be hosting our first ever Women in SAP event. After 6 months of planning and aligning the diaries, it was a major disappointment. However, the show must go on and we now have a new date locked in for the second quarter of the year.

So, you know what, I am not going to let it get me down!

Keep your eyes peeled for my next blog, I will be interviewing Jane Lee, my fellow long-term Precision Sourcing team member who will be returning to work in August. It will be nice to have a #workingmum buddy!
