How did you find yourself working in Data?

I was approached about a role within a Data Company just over 10 years ago. At the time, I was working with advertising agencies to develop promotional campaigns, and the appeal to me initially, was the outcomes data drives – using the insight from the data, shaping the campaigns and targeting the customers.

Who has been the biggest inspiration (mentor) in your career and why (within data)?

I’m always inspired when someone tells me I can’t do something or something is not possible! Not to prove it wrong – but to figure it out and or look at the challenge with a different lens.  Although I am always inspired by friends, peers and my clients for the continuous effort to improve ourselves, the work we do and the impacts we make however big or small they may be.

What personal development do you do to keep yourself sharp?

Intense Exercise –training keeps me on track and my mind focused which affects every area of my life.

Do you find that organisations are changing in the way that they view data and how it can be used for strategy?

Most definitely! Data is being used more than ever to make informed decisions and build out strategy.

I would say in some instances organisations are only just realising they have data –seeing it for the first time!  The best part comes from helping them make something of it – action!

What can be done to ensure Australia is a market leader in data analytics?

Collaboration and transparency – we can’t survive without it. A great start for Australian businesses is to consider adopting an inclusive approach to their work and look to businesses both in and out of your industry to share what’s working and what’s not, and learn from each other.

How do you see the technology in data progressing over the next 5 to 10 years?

I think technology will create space instead of taking up space. Information will be more available and aid in the ease of our daily lives, replace decision making and provide whole new sets of the challenges. This is happening now –the possibilities are endless.
